My Weekend

Photos courtesy of Demode for Brazilian magazine Criativa

These photos have helped to cheer me up after what can only be described as the worst couple of days ever. I tried to write this yesterday, but kept welling up. I'll keep it short. On Sunday evening we noticed our wee Lydicat was under the weather, lying on her bed and breathing rapidly. It didn't take long to make the decision to take her to the emergency vet. At 17 years old, you do start to prepare yourself for the worst, so why oh why did it still come as a horrible shock when the vet said she had a huge tumour in her tummy and her breathing was probably because she was in pain? They gave her a good shot of painkillers and let us take her home to be fussed over before we had to have her put to sleep on Monday. It was the single most distressing day of my life. However, it made me appreciate having a local 24 hour emergency vet service. Vets Now gave us advice over the phone and looked after Lydia when we got there. They do a fantastic job and it must be heartbreaking for them to have to give out bad news on a regular basis.

Wasn't sure about posting this news on here as it's very personal, but Lydia was a huge part of the family and has featured in more than one post. We miss her and I wanted to share that with you all x

  1. words can't really express how gutted i am for you all... truly saddening stuff, and i am only just beginning to imagine how it must feel... spaceface has been on a pretty downward spiral of health and fitness over the past few months and it is making every second count with her...

lydia was a very beautiful and unique little wobbly pussycat and i am chuffed to have met her, my deepest sympathies to you, david and mildred, lots of love to you all and hope that you can remember her and feel her always, she was a gorgeous being. she will have given you all very high marks for your service to her.

  2. Ah so sorry to hear about Lydicat, it's totally true that animals are as much a part of the family as brothers and sisters! We had an 18 year old cat called Cleo, much like your Lydicat she had massive tumours in her stomach and ulcers in her mouth, couldn't even eat or drink, so in the end we knew it was the best thing to have her put down. Better than all that suffering. Again, really sorry to hear about what you're going through, I know it's horrible! Hope you feel better soon.. xx

  4. I'm so sorry for the loss of your Lydia. I understand what it's like, they become so much a part of the family you think of them as your babies. My Jezebel was 21.5 when we had to put her down, and having recused her at the age of 6 weeks she truly was my first child. Lydia lived a long happy life, and I'm sure she's at peace now. Love and healing to you and yours.

  10. Aw no, I hope you're ok! At least you caught the tumours before she could be in any more pain (I know that's not much consolation just now but it will be soon enough). Two of my cats were put down within weeks of each other recently because of multiple tumours, so I know exactly how you must feel just now. You'll be alright soon! Meanwhile get a nice pic of Lydia in a nice frame as a tribute :) xxx
