Hola! Holiday Highs (and Lows)

Mr G and I have just returned from our wee week away in Tenerife. This is an image heavy post, so I'll keep the words to a minimum.

HIGH: endless days of glorious sunshine by the pool. LOW: a giant cockroach dropping out the tree above resulting in me squealing like a wee lassie and Mr G jumping into the pool for safety... with his iPhone in his swim shorts pocket. Major FAIL.

midi length sundress from Primark - matches my Tequila Sunrise

HIGH: Slurping gallons of sangria and cocktails whilst literally LOLing my way through Caitlin Moran's How To Be A Woman. LOW: all that booze coupled with fried breakfasts, ice-cream lunches and buffet dinners means "I AM FAT"

HIGH: Siam Park Water Kingdom. Amazing rides including a 3m high wave machine.

Bargain sale swimming cosy from Marks and Sparks, set off with ridiculous (but necessary for peely-wally Scottish lassies) bandana from the local market in Los Cristianos. Thunder thighs courtesy of too many second helpings

Pretty much all highs, except... LOW: both of us breaking out in a hideous prickly heat rash the next day resulting in antihistamines, 'special' cream from the pharmacist and emergency 'cover up' clothing for the rest of the hols. My legs are still covered. I look like I have scabies.

HIGH: By day 5 I felt like a total heffer, so when 'Reuben' came looking for ladies to take part in some light aqua aerobics, I decided to take the plunge and joined in. LOW: it made my prickly heat sting :(

HIGH: Boat trip to see whales and dolphins. We saw bottle nosed dolphins and pilot whales (above). We got to stand out on the bow as we bobbed and crashed all the way out into the Atlantic. I squealed with delight each time we when over a giant wave. It was like being on a rollercoaster! LOW: A glut of kids, puking into carrier bags, stinking the place out.

'Easy Rider' top from Primark (last minute panic buy). Kinda love how cheap it looks.

Standard white cotton 'holiday frock' from Warehouse about 3 years ago.

HIGH: Free booze - a complimentary glass of Cava on arrival, a whole bottle for Mr G's birthday and another glass (and rose for me) as part of the hotel's 'black and white' theme night. LOW: We were the only ones who made the effort to dress in black and white. We should have got another bottle.

HIGH: Literally - very high - Mount Teide, the volcano at the centre of the island, is 3,718 m (12,198 ft) above sea level. We took a coach all the way up through the National Park and then a cable car to the top. The landscape was breathtaking (and it wasn't just the thin air) LOW: I badly needed a wee on the bus up the mountain, forcing Mr G to interrupt the guide mid-sentence to ask him to pull over. I was going to either scream in pain or actually piss myself. However, we stopped 2 minutes later at a lovely wee cafe - emergency thwarted!

HIGH: I got to see indigenous flora and fauna including lots of Gallotia Galloti (wall lizards) and a beautiful blue dragonfly (too fleeting to photo) LOW: It appears I am more afraid of heights than I previously thought. I was literally on the verge of tears as we climbed out of the top elevation on the cable car. The views were incredible, but I just wanted to lie on the ground and cling to the lava rocks.

My favourite scarf from last winter (Tie Rack sale) - they warned it would be cold at the top - it wasn't // ANCIENT vest top from about 6/7 years ago // new sunnies from Ebay // tie-dye trousers from Topshop

Trusty leopard print jumpsuit from H&M sale. A lifesaver after the 'break-out'

HIGH: I got to wear my new sunglasses (cheap knock-off versions of the Topshop Unique ones I blogged about here) and my American Apparel Neon Nails polish. LOW: no decent outfit shots due to scabby legs and Monica-style frizzy hair.

By far the biggest HIGH of the whole holiday was our last day... but that's a whole other post - stay tuned ;-)

  4. I have been to Tenerife only twice with my family when I was in my early teens, we went to Mount Teide too! The thing I remember most about my visits there were the wall lizards that were literally everywhere!

I went on a glass bottom boat and saw the Dolphins but I can't remember seeing any Whales - that would have been awesome!

I also went parasailing whilst I was there which was one of the most exhilarating things I have ever done!

Loving the picture of you sipping the Tequila in your Harry Potter-esque sunnies!

My first encounter with a cockroach was in Tenerife, massive we torched it and it still scuttled across the ceiling, in the end it took 4 issues of Vogue to kill the bastard!
